Hearing Aid Types
So you've made the decision to purchase hearing aids for the first time, or maybe you want to upgrade, now what? There's so much choice available, it can be confusing to narrow down the options to suit you. Let our experts help you decide what you need by recommending relevant products suited to your hearing loss, lifestyle and ability. See below for more information about the types of hearing aids we offer

Behind-The-Ear (Ric/BTE)
This type of hearing aid has a slim piece
that sits behind your ear with a wire and
dome on the end. They are rechargeable
(although battery powered is still an option
if you wish)

Great for
A more natural sound and rechargeable while still being small

You may want to consider
This style does mean you have something behind your ear which for some people can be difficult whilst taking reading glasses on and off

CIC (Completely in the Canal)
This type of hearing aid is made from a
bespoke mould of your ear canal and
fits inside your ear.

Great for
Discreet and nothing behind your ear

You may want to consider
Cic's do come in a rechargeable option but this can make the aid bigger in size which some patients find uncomfortable in their ears.

Over-The-Counter (OTC)
This type of hearing aid does not require an Audiologist to program it or a bespoke prescription. Some models come with an app to help you set it up in a way that best meets your requirements

Great for
Budget friendly, a great "starter" hearing aid if you're not quite ready to commit to a more advanced type or just want to see the potential benefits.

You may want to consider
OTC Hearing aids are not programmed by a professional and therefore the output is "generic" fit based on averages which may not suit your hearing loss level or type.

Helping you understand your hearing Loss
We believe that understanding your hearing loss is the first step to hearing better and being able to communicate more easily. Before making any recommendations we will complete a full hearing assessment and talk you through the results. If you decide to try hearing aids we will use the results of the hearing test to program hearing aids specifically to your loss and perform several tests to ensure they are set up correctly to allow you to hear as well as possible. The process of fitting a hearing aid successfully involves several follow up appointments all of which are included in the cost.

Hearing loss can be catagorised into 3 main types;

-
Sensorineural hearing loss – this is the most common type and is often related to wear and tear/age related loss, it can also be caused by noise damage. It occurs when the hair cells in the inner ear/cochlea become permanently damaged and cannot transmit the sound signals to the brain.
-
Conductive hearing loss – this often occurs when something is blocking the sound such as wax or an ear infection. It is caused by sound waves being blocked as they try to pass through to the ear drum and the bones of the middle ear.
-
Mixed hearing loss – this is when there is a combination of both conductive hearing loss and a sensorineural loss.

FAQ
How do I know which hearing aid will be best for me?

There are several factors that will determine which hearing aid will be the right one for you. They include the nature and severity of your hearing loss, your lifestyle and the activities you regularly enjoy, your job, your eyesight and dexterity, and the size and shape of your outer ear and inner ear canal. Our Audiologist can talk you through all of these options

Our Hearing aids come in a 5 tier pricing system ranging from £1400 to £3,400 (per pair). We also offer a budget friendly option for £900 per pair, this is a more basic hearing aid with no connectivity and less features. Prices are for a pair but if you only need 1 hearing aid prices can be adjusted accordingly. Options include various styles of hearing and rechargeable or battery powered.
